Lilly Cup Crushed

For as long as I can remember, there’s been a Lilly Cup factory on Danforth Rd just east of Warden. The front of the factory had a giant two-storey cup with Lilly Cup on it. They were the makers of disposable coffee cups and such. Anyway, I was driving by the plant today — which hasn’t been operated as a cup manufacturing plant for many years now — and was surprised to see it being torn down. Fortunately, I had my camera with me and stopped for some photos. This shot is from the backside of the plant. I’ll post one later off the giant cup, which has yet to be destroyed. I’m glad I caught it before it’s gone.

Sometimes sad stories make great photos.

  2. Oh the disposing of the disposable cup maker–very ironic!

  3. I guess it is. Truth be told, it’s been many years since this was an active cup making factory.

I live in the neighborhood still. I was sure they were going to keep it or move it. Yesterday morning, the last thing standing was the cup was. This morning it was gone.

    • Thanks for dropping by, Cindy. I’m glad I got some shots of it. I like your shot from the corner of Mack Ave. & Danforth Rd. I’ll post another shot of it showcasing the cup tomorrow.

The crossing guard at that corner told me that pieces of the cup were taken away and not destroyed. So that part of the plant may still be preserved. She used to work there so I promised to give her a print of my photo.

  5. Wow, how about that, Cindy. That’s very nice of you to offer a print. I’ll post my building front photo shortly.
