Two painted kids

I saw these adorable kids with their faces painted at Kensington Market yesterday and had to get their photo. Problem was, no parents. I knew they had to be somewhere so I asked them where their parents were. That’s when dad came up, smiling. I said, Oh, Hi, would you mind if I photographed your children? He was fine with it and even tried to coral them in for the shot. I took a couple but this one’s my favourite. It’s too bad I didn’t think to pass my card to the father so he could get a copy of this shot, but to be honest at the time I didn’t really think I’d captured anything all that special. Hope you like it.

So yesterday I had about the biggest photography related compliment I’ve received since starting out. Another photographer friend in our group — a professional who has been shooting since forever and was doing wedding back in the ’80s — asked me if I’d consider shooting his daughter’s wedding next year, for the full fee. He’s mentioned in the past he really likes my photography, but to be honoured with such a request is amazing. I told him I’d think about it but I can’t imagine turning down something like this. Plus, even though he’ll be in the wedding party, he’ll be available to help me if I need it, like with advice and such. Anyway, it’s quite the compliment coming from anyone, but from a professional with decades of experience, and someone who knows this will be my first wedding shoot. Like, wow.

  1. I’m not suprised that someone asked you to shoot a wedding! You have a way of “seeing” an image before you even click the shutter – you will do a fantastic job!!

Congrats and what a fantastic compliment that is! I can understand why he asked you as your work is excellent and, for me, a constant source of inspiration. Great work!

You are braver than I, Dave! I’m sure you’ll do great at the wedding!
