He walks with calm anticipation,
fear of an unknown situation,
kicking leaves as he goes
off the cold concrete sidewalk.
He can’t decide how he feels,
yet he knows, inside his heart
a new warmth of hope
long lost grows
with every step he takes.
The evening sky is dark and grey,
he tests the words of what he’ll say,
and walks up slowly to her door.
Butterflies dance, the time is near,
he stands alone
with his fear and heart unsure
and rings the bell.
